Sara Asteborg works with abstract painting in acrylic and mixed media. Her practice is rooted in an inner landscape and explores how states and sensations can take physical form through colour, structure and rhythm.

The works are built layer by layer through a process-based approach in which overpainting, shifts and chance remain visible. Asteborg works slowly, often incorporating paper, fabric, lace, embroidery and other fragments that contribute texture and material presence. Using water, she allows acrylic paint and ink to flow and transform across the surface, allowing the paintings to evolve through chance, missteps and moments of resolution in dialogue with the material.

The work operates primarily within abstraction, where dense, accumulated surfaces are set against more open and airy passages. Painting becomes a means of transforming experiences into image, where the work may function as a quiet opening toward presence, resonance and a changed way of seeing.
